Complementary Training Activities

An CTA is an inter-level group activity in which students are asked to carry out a project of their own initiative. The project is an opportunity to put students in a situation where they can develop their autonomy:
    goal setting, planning in time, choice of means,
  • Achievement of selected objectives
  • meeting a deadline…

This project must result in a completed production. The quality of this achievement will be a determining evaluation criterion. The final production can take various forms (HTML pages, video, paper file, scientific experiment, literary or artistic creation…). These achievements must emphasize the creativity of the students.

The CTAs allow students to :
  • to acquire knowledge, skills and know-how in a different way.
  • to develop an activity that is coherent or complementary with a training project (academic, cultural, professional…)
  • to acquire training in project organization and communication.

A few points of reference …

  • 18 half-days are devoted to the ACF. They generally take place from the second week of September to mid-May, at a rate of about half a day per two-week period.
  • The CTAs are for all high school students.
  • CTAs are inter-level activities. Each group usually consists of 10 to 15 students from grade 10 to grade 12.
  • In general, there are about 40 projects each year.
  • Each CTA group is supervised by two teachers and two student leaders.
  • Several juries are set up comprising three members of the teaching team, including a minimum of two teachers per jury, parents of students, external persons and former students. Their function is to approve, monitor and evaluate the projects.

The different phases

Each year, the CTA half-days follow a precise procedure, the main steps of which are as follows:
  • CTA N° 1 : presentation of CTAs to newcomers and ideas fair.
  • CTA N° 2 : continuation of the fair of ideas, writing of the habilitation file.
  • CTA N° 3 : writing of the habilitation file and submission of the file to La Vie Scolaire.
  • First Reading Committee.
  • CTA N° 4 : Progress of the project or, if necessary, modification of the authorization file.
  • Second Reading Committee
  • CTA N° 5 à CTA N° 9 : progress of the project.
  • CTA N° 10 : Mid-term evaluation
Each year, at the halfway point, a refocusing of the various C.T.A. projects is carried out. During this half-day session, the members of each jury are invited to visit each CTA to present an interim assessment of the project, in the presence of the co-responsible professors and, if possible, resource persons who are invited to take part in this interview as far as they are available.
During this half-day, the students must be at the disposal of the juries with all the documents necessary for this first assessment (logbook with completed collective logbook, various achievements: photos, newspapers, cassettes …).
During this moment of evaluation, the students make an oral presentation of the project, structured, precise, illustrated with examples or situations encountered, with an equitable distribution of speech between the different members of the group. All C.T.A. members must be present.

There are two aspects to the CTA assessment: an assessment of the project group and, since the 2007/2008 school year, an assessment of individual competencies.

Evaluation by project group :
It is carried out by the jury during the final validation for the whole group. It includes general and specific criteria. It is defined by a “validation grid” (see below).

Evaluation for each member of the group :
The list of skills that can be acquired by the student in the CTA during his or her studies at LP2I has been established. This “Individual Competency Booklet” will allow the student to highlight the competencies acquired during the CTA.
Throughout the year, the student can, at his request, be evaluated individually on his different skills. It is the teacher in charge of the CTA who will validate them.
